Tucson FTM Surgery
Feel More Confident
Female to male top surgery, also known as chest masculinization, is a cosmetic procedure that consists of removing breast tissue (bilateral mastectomies) followed by male chest contouring in order to achieve a more masculine appearing torso. Dr. Craig Hurst is fellowship trained and has over 14 years of experience in plastic surgery. At Hurst Plastic Surgery, in Tucson, he offers FTM top surgery to persons who are interested in aligning the appearance of their chest more with their identity. FTM top surgery is the most common gender affirming cosmetic surgical procedure selected by transgender men and non binary individuals who wish to pursue a surgical transformation, and may be the only one ever undertaken. Clients consistently report satisfaction with their surgical outcome that include a lasting effect on their body, lifestyle, and overall well being.

FTM Top Surgery
Dr. Hurst and his staff meet with you for a complimentary consultation to discuss aesthetic concerns regarding your chest. FTM top surgery benefits individuals who wish to move forward with cosmetic gender confirming surgery. There are a number of different approaches used for this procedure that depend on chest size, extent of excess skin, and the desire to retain areola/nipple sensation.
- Double incision with free nipple grafts: Good candidates have medium to large chests, low skin elasticity, and are unconcerned about nipple sensitivity.
- Inverted T: This approach is performed on individuals with medium to large chests, low skin elasticity, and a desire to maintain areola and nipple sensation.
- Peri-areolar: Good candidates have small to medium chests with adequate skin elasticity and wish to maintain areola and nipple sensation.
- Keyhole: A small chest, good skin elasticity, and the desire to retain nipple and areola sensation are preferable characteristics for this technique.
Hormone therapy with testosterone is not necessary prior to undergoing top surgery.
