Tucson Facelift Procedures
Revitalizing Your Features
Also called a rhytidectomy, a facelift is a hugely popular procedure to help minimize the appearance of age-lined skin on your face and neck. Depending on the results* you are looking for, our Tucson cosmetic surgeon can perform full facelifts, mini-lifts or neck lifts. At Hurst Plastic Surgery, these procedures are typically used in conjunction with non-surgical rejuvenation treatments which can complement the results beautifully*. Depending on your current needs, these may also be used to delay signs of aging, postponing any need of surgical assistance.
You may be a good candidate for a facelift if you have:
- Deeply creased lower eyelids
- “Parentheses” lines around the nose and mouth
- Loss of volume in the face leading to sagging skin
- Loss of overall skin elasticity and tone
If you are ready for a more vibrant, youthful appearance, contact us today. We can help you learn more about this procedure and determine if you may be a good fit.
During Your Consultation
We invite you to visit us for a free cosmetic consultation. You will meet with Dr. Hurst and Tami, our clinical coordinator. Our first goal is to understand from you what you want to accomplish. Once we know what your goals are, we can help you by explaining what your options are for various procedures and together develop a personalized plan for you.
Your satisfaction is our primary goal, and we can only achieve that together with realistic expectations. Your overall health and personal outlook can greatly impact the outcome of your facelift. There are things that a facelift will not change, such as your basic, fundamental appearance or the aging process in general. There may be medical conditions as well that could impair healing and make a facelift impractical or unsafe. At no point would we want to endanger your overall health and we will discuss some aspects of your medical history to make sure a facelift is safe for you. We will discuss all costs and fees and financing options that are available to you during that time.
If you choose to proceed with the surgery, we will schedule a second consultation as well as the surgery itself. We will give you instructions and information to prepare for your procedure and get one step closer to a fresher, younger-looking you!
Preparing for Your Procedure
With a planned surgery, there are definite advantages since you have time to pro-actively prepare for a successful recovery. As we’ve mentioned, every person will have a plan tailored specifically to them and parts of that will relate to your current lifestyle or medications. If you are a smoker, your body has a slower healing process and may have issues with wounds. Because of this we recommend a person quits smoking 6 to 8 weeks prior to their surgery, and require that they quit no less than 2 weeks prior.
If you take any medications that may cause bleeding, such as aspirin, you would need to refrain from taking them 3 weeks prior to your procedure. All medications, vitamins, herbal remedies or dietary supplements would need to be discussed and reviewed, in some cases we may require surgical clearance from your physician for your safety.
Your facelift procedure will be performed in an accredited surgical facility, not in our office. We will base your need for anesthesia on the requirements of your procedure, patient preference and surgeon's recommendation.
If your procedure takes place at any location other than our office, we will provide you with a map so it is easy to find. Do not eat or drink anything the morning of your surgery, including water. Regardless of the location of your procedure, do not use any lotions, makeup or deodorant. We recommend that you wear loose, comfortable clothes, easy to change in and out of, and that you remove any jewelry. We will make sure that our trained professionals are readily available to you should you have any questions or concerns at any point during this procedure.
What Can You Expect from Recovery?
Recovery can take anywhere from 5 days to 3 weeks, so make sure your employer is aware that you may not be able to work for a period immediately following your surgery.
While swelling is a normal, expected part of the process, we will take measures to reduce it with compression dressings applied to the area for the first few days. You should also keep your head elevated, particularly while sleeping. It may take a few weeks to see the final results* while your face heals so be patient and realistic during that process. We will give you detailed instructions when you leave, but generally the same rules apply as with any surgery. You need a lot of rest, a great deal of fluids, a high-protein diet to accelerate healing, and no alcohol or tobacco products. Try to build up your activity within reason as you heal. If you aren’t sure what you should be doing, if you’re healing properly or how much is too much for you to be doing, just speak to any member of Dr. Hurst’s team. We’re happy to help you through every step of this process.
Risks & Benefits of a Facelift
No surgery comes without a certain amount of risks. You should be fully educated on those possibilities before deciding to take this step. Some people experience slow healing in certain areas, such as behind the ears. There are some more serious complications such as nerve injury that are far rarer. For more information on what you should know before deciding to proceed with a facelift visit American Society of Plastic Surgery.
It’s not all risks though. When you walk out your front door in the morning with a fresh, confident outlook on life. When you look at your face in the mirror and smile. When the world can see the glitter in your eyes and the energy you feel. Those moments give the greatest value, the highest benefit to a facelift. You can be confident in the professionals working for you and with you. Dr. Hurst is certified by The American Board of Plastic Surgery and is trained in plastic surgery of the face as well as the entire body. If you are going to trust someone with the greatest feature you show the world, you should know they are qualified and deserve that trust.
