Tucson Gynecomastia Surgeon
Trust Our Experience Surgeon with Your Case
Gynecomastia common disorder men might experience in which the endocrine system increases the size of male breast tissue. The disorder is usually associated with puberty, as the body is flooded with an increase in different hormones to promote growth and sexual maturation. If adolescent boys experience gynecomastia, the symptoms usually disappear in 75% of cases within 2 years without treatment. For the other 15%, however, the condition can often be a source of embarrassment or self-consciousness. If diet and exercise haven't worked to remove the condition, surgery is another option.

Gynecomastia surgery corrects the sagging or stretching of the breasts and areola in severe cases of the condition. The position and size of the areola can be improved, and the skin can be tightened.
Is Gynecomastia Right for Me?
Typically, men whose condition can’t be treated with alternative medical methods can opt for the surgery. Other candidates include the following:
- Healthy people who do not have a condition that can impair healing or cause surgical problems
- Non-smokers and non-drug users
- Those with a positive outlook and specific goals in mind for improving their symptoms
- Men who have realistic expectations
- People whose breast development has stabilized
- Those who are bothered by the feeling that their breasts are too large
While adolescents can undergo the surgery and benefit from it, a secondary procedure might be needed in the future if their breasts continue to develop.
How It Works
After giving you an anesthetic, your surgeon may perform a liposuction treatment in cases where gynecomastia is mainly the result of fatty tissue. Thin hollow tubes called cannula will be inserted through several small incisions.
An excision technique may be used where glandular breast tissue or excess skin must be removed to correct the condition. It may also be necessary if the areola will be reduced or the nipple repositioned to a more natural male contour. The shape of the cut will also vary depending on the specific conditions and the preference of your surgeon. If both are required, your doctor may perform excision and liposuction to treat your particular case.
The results will be immediate after the surgery*, though you may experience post-surgical swelling or bruising. Likewise, you may have incision scars, but they will fade over time. Final results will take around 3 to 6 months to achieve*.
